Forensic Fluids Laboratories Announces Quantitative Testing for 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7OH) in Oral Fluid
Kalamazoo, MI — Forensic Fluids Laboratories Inc.(FFL), a leading provider of oral fluid toxicology testing, is proud to announce the expansion of its testing capabilities to include the quantitative detection of 7-hydroxymitragynine (7OH) in oral fluid.
7-hydroxymitragynine (7OH) is a potent, active metabolite of mitragynine, the primary alkaloid found in kratom. Additionally, 7OH is being marketed by itself in select products. Known for its opioid-like effects, 7OH has drawn increasing attention from public safety and public health professionals due to its potency, potential for impairment, and emerging role in substance use trends. As the prevalence of kratom-related products continues to rise across the United States, the ability to accurately detect and measure 7OH is becoming increasingly critical.
By offering quantitative testing for 7OH in oral fluid, Forensic Fluids Laboratories is equipping its partners with a powerful new tool to better understand recent use and potential impairment. Oral fluid testing provides a convenient, non-invasive, and highly effective matrix for detecting recent drug exposure, making it particularly valuable in children’s services, court settings (probation and specialty courts), workplace safety programs, law enforcement, and clinical settings.
“This advancement reflects our ongoing commitment to staying ahead of emerging drug trends and providing actionable, science-driven insights,” said Bridget Lorenz Lemberg, Lab Director. “The addition of quantitative 7OH testing allows our partners to make more informed decisions in support of both public safety and public health.”
Forensic Fluids Laboratories is the nation’s longest-standing laboratory exclusively dedicated to oral fluid testing. With more than 5 million samples analyzed, the laboratory has established itself as a trusted leader in delivering accurate, reliable, and timely toxicology results.
The introduction of 7OH testing underscores the laboratory’s continued investment in innovation and its mission to support communities, employers, and public agencies in addressing evolving substance use challenges.
